I installed linux-image-2.6.24-2-generic_2.6.24-2.3_amd64.deb linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-2-generic_2.6.24.2-2.7_amd64.deb linux-restricted-modules-common_2.6.24.2-2.7_all.deb
from hardy on a gutsy system and things appear fine. In particular the nvidia driver works well as does shutdown.
