FWIW, the bug status should have been Won't fix and not Invalid, as the
main bug. It's unfortunate your use case broke.
Mixing multiple Ubuntu instances on a single machine is problematic (as
there can only be one grub installed), and having both i386 and amd64
installed does not make it easier. My suggestion would be to install one
Ubuntu in amd64, and if you need i386 instances of older versions, to
run them in virtual machines, for example, using multipass.
