Public bug reported: Between the xenial (16.04) and hirsute (21.04) releases, lz4 was in main, and after 2019 was used by default for initramfs compression. In impish onwards, that compression was changed to zstd by default and lz4 was demoted to universe.
Unfortunately, zstd is unsuitable for low-memory / slow platforms such as the relatively new Pi Zero 2 (or the older 3A+) which both have only 512MB of RAM (see LP: #1950214 for further details). As such, we need lz4 back in main to support (at least) the Pi images. As this could be considered a re-hash of the previous MIR in LP: #1531923, I've not (yet) included the usual MIR sections as I'm not sure a full (re-)review is required? If it is, I'm happy to provide an updated set. ** Affects: lz4 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1953407 Title: [MIR] lz4 (again!)
