Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-2-386

I'm reporting this as a new bug although similar bugs were reported in
earlier releases because this was not a problem in release 7.10 but has
presented itself in the alpha-1 and alpha-2 of 8.04 Hardy and persists
after the 23 Dec 2007 update to esound.

On 7.10, I have application sound (Totem, for example) and system
sounds. On 8.04 alpha, I have Totem sound but no application sound,
even though sound device test produces sound. System sound test does
not produce sound and none are heard in normal use of system. I
consulted the "Debugging Sound Problems' wiki page. It suggests
removing .asoundrc file. I don't have that file in my home directory,
nor in any subdirectory of my home. I'm reporting the information in
attached files, as requested on that wiki page. BTW, IMHO, you should
create a script that produces all of the necessary files without so much
manual command-line work. This was way to hard to put together.

As instructed on the wiki page, I used the kernel name
(2.6.24-2-generic) as the package, but that package name does not exist
in Ubuntu. I chose a package that seemed to be the closest to your
request for kernel as package, figuring the sound module must be in
there. You should give a better instruction in the wiki page.

** Affects: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
