I got the problem resolved. I went to Lenovo's Website:

list/component?name=BIOS%2FUEFI

And got the firmware from there (version 1.46). It had two files in it.
'N34ET46W.cab' said it was already installed and 'ThinkPad-
EmbeddedControllerFirmware-1.37.cab' installed and when it booted back
up the fan was working again.
