Public bug reported:

My system hangs approximately 10min - 1hr after starting to play audio.
I'm using Totem to play the audio. File format is mp3. Sound device is
C-Media CMI8738 through ALSA. Distribution is up-to-date Hardy Heron.

I'm not 100% convinced this has anything to do with audio, but it only
manifests itself when I'm playing audio. It is reproducible (usually
within an hour of interactive use.).

It's entirely possible that this is a HW issue also as this machine was
never used for audio in its previous role (webserver with Gentoo circa
2004).

I'm very new to Ubuntu and would like to help with debug on this but
would like some suggestions for moving forward.
