Given the age of report and no further updates by the poster--I tag this
invalid.
Advice: Use version 7.10, Save what you need, proceed with fresh
install--delete and format old "/" partition, "ensure proper swap size", create
"/" again on deleted "/" partition (size optional), make changes to disk.
Result: Grub stays stable--swap stays or grows--fresh install is always best
choice.
