Public bug reported: Binary package hint: syslinux
This is a IBM notebook T40 with ubuntu 7.10. I got syslinux using "sudo apt-get install syslinux". I had noticed that mtools was downloaded and installed also. I want to make a portable Linux version on a USB flash pen drive, so I tried the tutorials exactly on http://www.pendrivelinux.com/. But I coundn't success. There is "Can't find the operator system" on screen always, when my notebook reboot from USB disk. At last, I went to test my system for USB boot compatibility, using the way descried in http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/09/17/testing-your-system-for-usb-boot-compatibility/. The test is under the MS Windows. My system passed the test. Then I came back into the Ubuntu. I do not run syslinux again, but install linux to my pen drive. Then the flash disk could reboot my notebook and run well. I think there is some problem with syslinux under ubuntu 7.10. I'm not sure of that. Best wish. ** Affects: syslinux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Syslinux in 7.10 couldn't make flashdisk bootable. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
