Hello, It does seem that the snapshot mode issue is related to the device being usb-host. The qemu docs [1] describe issues with using snapshot VMs alongside removable devices:
"They cannot cope with removable devices if they are removed or inserted after a snapshot is done." This may be related to why the vm is not writing to /tmp and rather back to the image itself. I could not find a workaround immediately offhand, but upstream may have more knowledge of this issue. If you find out anything more please let us know.
