Hi, concerning the steps to reproduce: As the bug report popped up quite much later than the actions taken, I am not 100% sure if the actions I describe result in the error, but it might be.
1) I started the app "Take a screenshot" by hitting "Super" then searching for "Screen" and selecting the app. 2) I then switched the toggle button from photo to video and the choice for the type of screenshot/screencast was "Selection" (other options were Screen and Window). 3) I then hit the "Record" Button with left mouse button. Screencast app interface disappeared, but recording did not start. Only a folder named "Screencasts" was created in the "~/Videos" folder.
