In my case, the first keyboard layout I configured was English (UK). I
then added English (US) and placed it at the top of the keyboard layout
list. I selected English (US) as the current layout using the keyboard
indicator.
If I rebooted, or logout and back in, the keyboard layout is always set
to English (UK) event though the configuration indicates English (US)
should be preferred.
