This seems to be caused by a locally modified /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober:
/etc/grub.d/30_os-prober: 324: printf: %2$: invalid directive
and therefore I am closing this as Invalid. Use one of the available
support channels like askubuntu, Ubuntu discourse, IRC, mailing list if
you need help resolving this issue.
For comparison the original file contains these lines 323-325:
