I have a "MAG X570S TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI (MS-7D54)", which seems to be nearly identical except of WiFi and a M.2 cooler. On Ubuntu 22.04 the same problem exists. The above mentioned "pacmd" call works with that as well and allows front panel headphone audio, while running a similar command, pacmd load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:2,3 allows me to use the SPDIF.
