Plnt, My RAID set finished re-syncing and I tried your suggestion. I
removed all drives except one /dev/sda, the first of my RAID set. When I
rebooted and was presented with the BusyBox shell I entered "/sbin/mdadm
--assemble --scan"  and rebooted. Still no luck!

I will persist with modifying the udev scripts as suggested by Peter.
