Public bug reported:

Free fonts that are provided are not very usable:

Bitstream Vera have broken support for latin-2 and other very common glyphs
(without them European users
from PL, CZ, DE can not work) especially in Sans version.

DejaVu is fixed, but unfortunately it is also broken but in other way: the font
is too thin - and it becomes gray (instead black), especially in Mono (and
afair also in Sans).

So only usable font is DejaVu Seriff, but well Seriff is not very good
looking.

1) How to make DejaVu not so thick
2) It is not very clear how to make that font to be default everywhere.
Please make DejaVu to be deafult instead Bitstream Vera:
a) Open Office
b) Some other KDE apps that have own font config (like Kate)
c) make "sans" and other general fonts map to it
d) make it default for KDE, Gnome etc WM

Problems with Bitstream are discussed in many other bug reports already, for
example
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-bitstream-vera/+bug/11180

Problem with DejaVu beeing thick - in attachment
I have enabled AntilAlias for fonts (in KDE Controll Center - Fonts), but only
Slight, and other fonts look ok.
