Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Every since Gutsy was released, I've been having occasional and sporadic
incidents where my keyboard will stop functioning. My mouse will
continue to work and be able to click things, but my keyboard is dead.
My capslock/numlock keys won't light up, the touch buttons on my laptop
won't do what they're supposed to (I'm on an HP Pavillion dv2000, my
results of lshw will be attached).

I'm not quite sure how to reproduce the bug, however someone could
probably give me information on that, seeing as Xorg logs the keycode
that I believe makes it break. The snippet of my Xorg log starting at
the loss of keyboard is as follows:

Dec 29 00:12:35 Ashbringer kernel: [193932.022162] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed
(translated set 2, code 0xd8 on isa0060/serio0).
Dec 29 00:12:35 Ashbringer kernel: [193932.022170] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes
e058 <keycode>' to make it known.
Dec 29 00:12:35 Ashbringer kernel: [193932.022845] atkbd.c: Unknown key
released (translated set 2, code 0xd8 on isa0060/serio0).
Dec 29 00:12:35 Ashbringer kernel: [193932.022851] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes
e058 <keycode>' to make it known.
Dec 29 00:34:56 Ashbringer -- MARK --

If anyone could let me know how to duplicate this by triggering that keycode,
that would be very much appreciated. This has been affecting a friend who is
using slightly different hardware, as well as possibly a few other people, in
the following two bugs:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/55294
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/123203

Thanks in advance to any bug-squatter that gives this his or her time.
