Unable to replicate this under the 22.04 server image for Pi, with
xubuntu-desktop installed. I did add "dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d" to the
config.txt on the boot partition as the desktop is only supported with
some form of KMS (this setting is present by default in the desktop
images). That may be worth trying on 20.04 as well if you're still on
that version.
Setting to incomplete in case the OP (or another) can verify this is
still an issue?
