Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: oooqs2-kde
Using oooqs2-kde 1.0-0ubuntu1 on Kubuntu 7.10.
Attempting to start an OpenOffice Application using the Quick Start Icon
in the System Tray causes an apparent system hang. Disk activity light
goes and stays on. Sometimes the Open Office Application window does
finally appear and the system response returns to normal. Other times
the hang appears to be indefinite. During the hang, top(1) shows
multiple soffice.bin processes coming and going.
I don't think this is #50136. I think it may be related to #179386.
The system hang occurs when there are two (different) users contexts.
Suspect that as with #179396, the quick starter is trying to create the
application window in the wrong user context. Suspect the attempts
fails since the contexts have different user ids. The quick starter
retries, causing the hang, until (if) it creates the window in the right
user context.
Seen on more than one system. I suspect the less well endowed the kit
the worse the problem, so try reproducing the problem on an old PC
(circa PIII, 256 Mb RAM).
