I have the same problem on old VIA chipset, MSI mainboard 6380 (lspci
attached). (Plug USB 2.0 stick in, dmesg->error -71 or -101 etc, but when
ehci_hcd rmmodded everything works)
It's weird that when I unplug the system disk and use it in nForce4 chipset,
2-year-old Gigabyte mainboard (can't show specs now) so that I have exactly the
same Ubuntu on the other PC, the problem is gone or more precisely I've never
seen this problem on the newer PC.

Ubuntu 2.6.24-2.4-generic
Linux ab-desktop 2.6.24-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Dec 20 17:36:12 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
