Version : Ubuntu Feisty Fawn(7.04)
GNOME : 2.18.1
System Specs
Memory : 512 MB RAM
Processor : AMD Athlon(TM) 64 Processor 2800+
Harddrive : SATA 80 GB (24.8 GB Free)
Architecture : i386
Behavior : Unreasonably Slow in execution.
Description : When an GNOME Session is initiated, there is no throttling of
the
processor at all (i.e The processor useage will be around 10%)
and thus the processes take its own time to load!!!
(the splash screen stays for atleast 20 seconds idle)
Additionally, there is also no change on Ondemand
processing!!!
especially for those applications which are started from the
gnome-panel(menu, buttons, etc...)
Peculiarity : Direct Keyboard shortcuts are executing normally, but the
same when
initiated from the menu tends to get very slow.
Explanation : Consider for instance, If I invoked a calculator application
directly
from the keyboard assigned shortcut, the application opens in
a flash
whereas if the same is invoked from the
menu->Applications->Accessories
it takes around ten seconds just to start the calculator!!!
This holds good for all the other applications that are
started from the
menu!!!
