Public bug reported: It would be nice to have the Common Desktop Environment in Ubuntu, not only for learning purposes but also for systems with limited resources. FYI, the description of the project reads: "The Common Desktop Environment was created by a collaboration of Sun, HP, IBM, DEC, SCO, Fujitsu and Hitachi. Used on a selection of commercial UNIXs, it is now available as open-source software for the first time."
In fact, the source code was released as free software in 2012 and has seen many releases since then. FreeBSD and NetBSD have it packaged, as well as several GNU/Linux distributions like Sparky Linux, NuTyX and NixOS.
