Thanks, @mdeslaur. At least there's a workaround for now (or so it appears).
After the last post by Hans de Goede in that thread, I was hopeful there would be a fix forthcoming (still broken as of LMDE 6.1.76-1). But that was dated 5+ months ago so not sure when, or if this will get done. But no hurry on my part.
