From a ~ubuntu-server perspective, perl packages are very, very low
maintenance work, so having two similar packages is not a problem in the
slightest since they sync from debian without needing any attention at
all.  Maintaining some non-mainstream patches going forward would be a
small bit of work but absolutely acceptable if that is desired.
