Not sure about the patch. I don't think it pertains to the actual serial
module but rather irsend and lircd.

To prove this I recompiled the serial module (did not install) and replaced
the old .ko with the new .ko

After loading the appropraite modules, the driver still refused to load.
Once my compiled lirc (0.8.3pre1) was installed with all appropriate
binaries, etc the blaster started working again.

Additionally, it has been verified that transmission from the pvr_150 module
is failed as well.
