I think this is an issue where both the 'Status Tray Plugin' and 'Indicator Plugin' are showing duplicates I have had this issue on other versions of Xubuntu. my workaround is to remove the one of them.
I have found removing the Indicator plugin seems to be the better option. I'm not sure why Xubuntu have both but I think this is a Ubuntu specific thing.
