Unable to resize windows

Ubuntu desktop 24.04 development branch @ 12/4/2024
Hexchat cannot resize its window anymore after some (system) updates
it used to work for long during the devel cycle
- Maximizing the window makes hexchat freeze (tested on wayland)
+ Maximizing the window makes hexchat freeze (tested on wayland + xorg)
minimizing still works

+ Logging out and log back into gnome make the windows resize again

+ on a fresh reboot the bug returns
