** Description changed:
[ Impact ]
Running rr in Phonenix AMD APU (Ryzen 7840U) as in latest generation of
AMD ThinkPad fails with
[FATAL ./src/PerfCounters_x86.h:121:compute_cpu_microarch()] AMD CPU
type 0x70f40 (ext family 0xa) unknown
It was fixed upstream via https://github.com/rr-debugger/rr/pull/3645
(related issue https://github.com/rr-debugger/rr/issues/3715)
[ Test case ]
With a such CPU run:
rr record true
- It should record the process execution as expected
+ It should record the process execution as expected, in case it may
+ mention that some further tuning is required for Zen CPUs:
+
+ On Zen CPUs, rr will not work reliably unless you disable the hardware
+ SpecLockMap optimization.
+ For instructions on how to do this, see
+ https://github.com/rr-debugger/rr/wiki/Zen
[ Regression Potential ]
Not really known since it's just adding a case for the CPU family.
In theory it may make other CPUs of the same family not work in the same
way.
