Public bug reported:

after the recent update to the 169.07 driver my system could not be properly
booted anymore. the gdm screen was only black - switching to a terminal
(ctrl-alt-f1 e.g.) also had no visible effect (the screen was still completely
black). I could fix the problem by removing the following lines from my
xorg.conf:

       Option "AddARGBVisuals" "True"
       Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
