Can you switch to a console while the screen is black? Please run:
xrandr -q -d :0 > xrandr.txt
and attach the file xrandr.txt. Please also make a copy of Xorg.0.log at this
point, and then again after logging in, so I can easier see what in the log
corresponds to which state.
