We have implemented (a couple releases ago, sorry I forgot to update
this here) a better Unexpected APT Error message, which includes the
details returned by apt when the exception happens - so you immediately
see (before looking at logs) a pointer to what happened.
I am closing this bug - feel free to reopen if you have any other issue
with this solution.
