Thanks Andreas! I just tested out the test package for noble and it
works great.

Here are some test/verification instructions (from a fresh install of
Ubuntu MATE 24.04):

- Install Google Chrome (the problem doesn't affect the default firefox snap)
- Start with Chrome closed
- Drag the Google Chrome icon from the MATE menu to the top panel bar (the
problem doesn't happen if you launch Chrome from the MATE menu)
- Open Chrome by clicking the icon you just dragged to the panel
- Download any .deb file
- Open it from inside of Chrome, choose GDebi to open it (it should be the
default application)
- Try to install the package

Without this new version installed, GDebi will just quit when you click
install. After installing the new version, it will correctly come up
with the pkexec authentication prompt and install the downloaded .deb
after you enter your password.
