Public bug reported: Binary package hint: privoxy
Using Privoxy with Firefox appears to break access to Archive.org's "WayBackMachine". Versions: firefox 2.0.0.11+2nobinonly-0ubuntu0.7.10 privoxy 3.0.6-3 To recreate problem: 1. apt-get install privoxy 2. Fire up Firefox. 3. Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Network->Settings 4. Change radio button from "Direct connection to the Internet" to "Manual Proxy Configuration". 5. Specify "localhost" port "8118". 6. Surf to http://www.archive.org/ 7. Enter a URL in the WayBackMachine box (eg "http://www.ubuntu.com/") and click "Take Me Back". 8. Observe the error you receive every time: 403 Forbidden Forbidden You don't have permission to access /web/*/http://www.ubuntu.com on this server. (Note that the URL is shown as, "http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ubuntu.com"). 9. Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Network->Settings 10. Change the radio button back to "Direct connection to the Internet". 11. Surf to http://www.archive.org/ 12. Enter a URL in the WayBackMachine box (eg "http://www.ubuntu.com/") and click "Take Me Back". 13.
