I was impacted by this myself....the automated nature of this is especially troublesome.
This def. is a high impact bug - esp for novice users to try to troubleshoot and resolve on their own. Please escalate. Thankfully, I pulled a page from openSUSE playbook and rolled back a few days (used btrfs + time machine).
