Your items 3 and 4 clash with one another. Are you saying in 3 that it
Chromium used to open normally when started with via the taskbar and now
it doesn't?

Update of what? Can you be more specific?

This is an unsandboxed and thus unsupported way of launching Chromium,
you should use /snap/bin/chromium or 'snap run chromium' (please attach
the output in case any of those fail to launch Chromium). If the task
bar launchers you set up are using that binary, they are of course also
unsupported.
