After installing linux-backports-modules, could you try to edit this file :
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
and modify the following line :
options snd-hda-intel
so that it looks like :
options snd-hda-intel model=acer
the reboot and test if sound works.
If it doesn't work, repeat the preceding procedure with "model=toshiba"
and "model=3stack"
