Public bug reported:
I have been experimenting with wayfire lately and in the course of that
I started to use loginctl terminate-session "" as a way of loging out.
In wayfire this works fine. Out of curiosity I also used it to attempt
to logout from a gnome session and it fails with "Failed to issue method
call: Caller does not belong to any known session." I also observed that
XDG_SESSION_ID was not set. (Whereas it was in the wayfire session). I
don't know if the missing variable is the cause of the problem or merely
a symptom. I tried both xorg and the gnome version of wayland but the
symptoms were the same.
There is clearly no serious functional problem with loginctl, one can
see the session numbers and terminate by explicitly using a number. It
just makes it harder to reliably identify ones specific session. I
cannot claim this is a bug that inconveniences me. On the other hand
idiosyncrasies of this sort waste peoples time and are best eliminated.
