Today (15.08.2024, 21:00 CEST)
My laptop stopped booting, then I chose and alternative Ubuntu boot and use
6.8.0-38.
Note: Using recovery mode with 6.8.0-40, boot stopped with Kernel panic.

Upon booting the system with 6.8.0-38, apt get update; apt get upgrade stopped
with this:
sudo apt-get upgrade

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  bpfcc-tools bpftrace ieee-data libbpfcc libclang-cpp18 libclang1-18 libllvm18
python3-bpfcc python3-netaddr
  ubuntu-kernel-accessories
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following upgrades have been deferred due to phasing:
  file-roller gnome-text-editor
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
2 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.
