Public bug reported:

H/W reset had to be done after system hung up right after stopping
(ctrl+c) sox (sox -w -r 37000 -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp2 -t ossdsp
/dev/dsp) while watching TV using tvtime (saa7134). At that point one
client was logged in using LTSP.

When trying to access ALSA playback from mplayer I get a mysterious
"Connection refused" error.

When selecting "NVidia SK8S" (on-board sound chip) for sound playback in
System->Preferences->Sound and testing playback I get the following:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Could not open resource for writing.

>From command-line, amixer gives the following.
$ amixer
*** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to connect: Connection refused
amixer: Mixer attach default error: Connection refused

This problem has never happened in my system before. Edgy and Feisty
were playing sound right after install without any configuration
changes. I have a suspicion that something remained locked right before
system reset, but don't know where to look.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
