Public bug reported:
Using exact same tboot flow/parameters as we used in 22.04, selecting a
tboot based menu entry using grub >= 2.12 (on ubuntu 24.04) causes tboot
to go to black screen, where no password prompt is presented (using luks
based encryption). luckily, the password prompt is actually there, and
entering the correct password works, and the boot will continue... but
black screen means no words/images are presented, and user can not know
what they are typing into...
selecting a non-tboot based boot option from the grub menu causes
password prompt to show as normal.
I tried using the latest version of tboot (as well as many others), and
it doesn't work. i also reverted to ubuntu 22.04, using old, and the
latest and greatest versions of tboot -- they all work fine.
has something changed in grub 2.12 that requires tboot to be updated for
the cryptsetup prompt (and other scripts) to be allowed to send
text/messages. i notice that no video or text happens once the tboot
option is selected.
please assist
Of relevance, we are using the Ubuntu 24.04 release versions of:
tboot 1.10.5-4
grub*-common 2.12-1ubuntu7
grub-efi* 2.12-1ubuntu7
grub-pc* 2.12-1ubuntu7
We expect this to behave as before with tboot (perform measured launch and then
present messages/prompts from cryptsetup scripts)... this also still works with
non-tboot menu selection. Instead we get black screen after boot (with single _
at top left)...
