I don't have .desktop files, in Ubuntu 22.04 icons were shown without
it. Yeah, it probably worked before because I was running a session in
Xorg. Not sure why this has changed since the update. I'll check the
Xorg session on next relogin (on next week).

I'm not sure, however, that I'm not on the Xorg already. According to
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1410256/how-do-i-use-the-x-window-
manager-instead-of-wayland-on-ubuntu-22-04 the Window manager should be
shown as X11 in About and it is:

In any case, may I ask is it possible to show icons on Wayland session
without a .desktop file? What session is preferred, Wayland or Xorg
(X11)? What the differences?
