I believe that is due to the machine missing an Nvidia driver AND
running an older kernel that may not support the current GPU. Although
if you have successfully updated the kernel already then it should be
6.8 which is new enough.

To avoid reinstalling (a newer) Ubuntu, you can try accessing the grub
boot menu by tapping Escape before the OS loads. Once in the menu you
will be able to select a safe/recovery mode. If you can get that to boot
then please run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot1.txt
  journalctl -b-2 > prevboot2.txt

and attach the resulting text files here. Otherwise please install
Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS instead.
