1. I installed ubuntu-desktop-minimal.
2. I did sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 to switch from lightdm to gdm3
3. reboot
4. No display. Logging in via ssh I see:

I've tried switching around via ctl-alt F[1|2|3|4|5|6] and I can see
console terminals but no gui.
This box was working for years through a couple of upgrades until 24.04.
