Public bug reported: Hi,
Earlier this year, the github pull request #4997 [1] has been merged in cloud-init 24.x. This pull request introduced a breaking change that was discussed in the github bug report #5486 [2]. It made the root password recovery option not working anymore with the Cloudstack Datasource when the network isn't managed by cloud-init (because of a cache not being invalidated). The discussion in the bug report ended with a fix being published in github PR #5499 [3]. In the currently available packages (24.2-0ubuntu1~20.04.1, 24.2-0ubuntu1~22.04.1 and 24.2-0ubuntu1~24.04.2), the PR#4997 (and the bug) is present but not the fix from PR#5499. Ideally, one should not be present without the other. FYI The same issue happened with RedHat in June/July, they recently published some erratas and new packages versions including the backported PR [4].
