Jakob, To upgrade to the Hardy drivers, you must edit /etc/apt/sources.list and add: deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted
You can then download and install the driver from http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11082821/xserver-xorg-video- ati_6.7.197%2Bgit20071227.bfa22d-0ubuntu0tormod1_i386.deb It should automatically install dependencies. You may need to remove the previous version of the driver by doing: sudo apt-get remove xserver-org-video-ati Unfortunately for me, however, I see no change in the issue and I am still tearing my hair out. To date, I have tried the following to resolve this issue (with an ATI Radeon 9700 pro): -setting the AGPMode in my xorg.conf to various options. I can only change between 8x and 4x and the issue still persists under both modes. I have no BIOS option to set to a lower agp mode and I can not force the card into AGP 1x mode -setting BusType "PCI" (gives horrible performance and has still locked) -Option "RenderAccel" "0" -Option "MergedFB" "off" -Option "UseFastTLS" "0" -setting the agpgart size to 64 -both the hardy and gutsy build drivers of 6.7.197 from tormod's PPA -disabling DRI and desktop effects -cursing at my video card and trying about 60,000 other combinations If anyone has any ideas, I will be incredibly appreciative. My system locks within an hour on average, and video/GL only speeds the issue up. Tormod, if you have any ideas or insight toward this problem, I will build several churches in your name. -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
