I have finally managed to solve this!! These posts led me in the right direction:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4074495 http://onemansjourneyintolinux.blogspot.com/2007/10/enabling-bluetooth.html It turns out that A. the D830 uses the same bluetooth module as does the D630, and B. the Dell Vista driver actually updates the bluetooth module firmware, in such a way that linux is unable to use it. My laptop came pre-installed with Vista..... Luckily i have a dual boot Vista/Ubuntu setup, so i was able to boot into Vista, download the latests drivers for the bluetooth module (in my case, R155395.EXE) and install these. If all goes well, this will update your bluetooth firmware. Note that i had to do this twice, since the first time the installer somehow deduced that my bluetooth device was incompatible... After this i booted back to Ubuntu, and now bluetooth worked "out of the box". Hope this helps, Cheers, Evert -- Bluetooth wont work in Gutsy on Dell D830 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156879 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
