Public bug reported: Lenovo Thinkpad P14s (AMD Ryzen 7) 64GB RAM, 4TB SSD Installed 23.10 eleven months ago because no other Ubuntu distro would run on this product. I would like to upgrade to 24.04.1. I've attempted the upgrade half a dozen times (both 24.04 and 24.04.1), but it always fails and leaves the system in an unusable state. The fail screen asks me to attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ to the bug report, but with the system unusable, it is difficult to recover them. If desired, I will boot a rescue system to get them before restoring my (fortunately) backed-up disk image.
My most recent attempt was done from a virtual console, and I believe scroll-back on these was removed from the kernel recently. Thus, I have only one page of info, which I photographed, and then ran OCR on from the restored system. Output follows: dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2 dpkg-deb: error: tar subprocess was killed by signal (Segmentation fault) dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-install—TwleDc/5-1ibcb_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb (--unpack): dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2 dpkg-deb: error: tar subprocess was killed by signal (Segmentation fault) dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-instal 1-TwleDc/6-1ibc6_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_i386.deb (--unpack): dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2 dpkg-deb: error: tar subprocess was killed by signal (Segmentation fault) dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-instal1-TwleDc/7-libc-bin_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb (--unpack): dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDc/1-libc-devtools_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDc/2-libc-dev-bin_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDc/3-libc6-dev_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDc/4-locales_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_all.deb /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDc/5-libc6_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDc/6-libc6_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_i386.deb /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-TwleDe/7-libc-bin_2.39-0ubuntu8.3_amd64.deb (gdbus call:34664): GLib-ERROR **: 10:35:28.786: file ../../../glib/gthread-posix.c: line 1311 (g_system_thread_new): error ‘Invalid argument’ during ‘pthread_create' Trace/breakpoint trap j ; (gdbus call:34688): GLib-ERROR **: 10:35:28.795: file ../../../glib/gthread-posix.c: line 1311 (g_system_thread_new): error ‘Invalid argument’ during ‘pthread_create’ Trace/breakpoint trap : ii : (gdbus call:34696): GLib-ERROR **: 10:35:28.806: file ../../../glib/gthread-posix.c: line 1311 (g_system_thread_new): error ‘Invalid argument’ during ‘pthread_create‘ Trace/breakpoint trap 3 ; : : ; : Exception during pm.DoInstall(): :Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Could not install the upgrades The upgrade has aborted.
