I don't have enough experience about zfs for help you, I tried it some years ago for proxmox servers but I have excluded using it in production, being outside the kernel it can happen that it fails to compile the module with kernel updates and fails to boot and use the zfs volumes (it also happened to me during my tests once) but I don't know if it can be your case, it is quite likely that it is something else. If give you "command Not found" on zpool probably zfs utils are not installed or was removed.
