Also confirmed that installing this from oracular-proposed does fix the issue:
$ sudo apt upgrade audacity/oracular-proposed Selected version '3.6.1+dfsg-1ubuntu0.1' (Ubuntu:24.10/oracular-proposed [amd64]) for 'audacity' Selected version '3.6.1+dfsg-1ubuntu0.1' (Ubuntu:24.10/oracular-proposed [all]) for 'audacity-data' because of 'audacity' ... I did one of the most dangerous things imaginable and ran this in a production system for my day job. Not sure if that's confidence or stupidity. Ran audacity as normal, splicing a podcast introduction onto its regular recording which requires zooming for some precision. Where this would have caused the waveforms to disappear, they did not and I was able to do my job normally without interruption, which had in the past few weeks caused a bit of a rage-quit and do-over until I could actually do it correctly.
