Thanks for your report, It happens only with rhythmbox? What about
nautilus? Can you browse the device the first time you plug it ?  or do
you get the same problem? Also does that works fine with another new
user created on your system?  Can you attach the output of "lshal &>
lshal.txt" when you plug the iPod ? thanks in advance.

** Description changed:

  When I start Gnome with iPod connected via USB-Cabel the iPod doesn't
  get recongized by Rhytmbox. I have to reconnect the iPod (USB) to get
  recongnized by Rhytmbox. The iPod is from 2003. Maybe it's a Gnome and
- not a Rhytmbox issue, but I's so damm user unfriendly that the user have
- to plugin in the USB device when Gnome is running and can't have the
- device connect with the pc from cold start. So the user has to plug the
