Public bug reported: ldmtool provides support for Windows Dynamic Disks that are the only option for a cross-platform RAID (Windows+Linux) on modern Intel and AMD systems: - On Intel systems, there's Intel fakeraid that had an initrd tool (dmraid), but dmraid was removed from Ubuntu 24.10 because it's unsupported. - On AMD systems, AMD's own fakeraid is in even worse state. It also sucks even on Windows (no SMART, original disks are hidden). So the only option for using dualboot RAID (Windows for gaming and Ubuntu for normal use) is dynamic disks. But it's not possible to use Ubuntu installed on dynamic disk, because the ldmtool package is not available in initrd to activate the RAID and create disk devices.
All what's needed is to call "ldmtool create all" in initrd. This is what I'm asking. Note that the dmraid package (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid) does have initrd support, so its debian/initramfs/ scripts can be easily ported into the ldmtool package. ** Affects: libldm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: boot initramfs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2090878 Title: ldmtool is not included into initrd to allow booting from dynamic disks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libldm/+bug/2090878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
